Lucknow is set to take a thrilling leap forward in urban recreation with the development of its first skate park at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Park in Gomti Nagar, being built by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA).

Spanning a large area of the popular public park — which itself covers 76 acres and welcomes thousands of visitors daily — the new skating facility will be the first of its kind in the city, transforming an underused zone into a vibrant community space.

The LDA has reimagined a long-neglected water body inside Lohia Park as a skating rink and skateboarding arena, bringing a sporty edge to the city’s recreational landscape. The estimated project cost runs into several crores, and construction work is expected to be completed within a few months once it starts in full swing.

What to Expect

  • A dedicated skating area designed for beginners and experienced riders alike.

  • Smooth concrete surfaces ideal for skateboarding, roller skating and BMX cycling.

  • Gentle slopes and practice zones for young learners.

  • A space where families, youth and sports enthusiasts can gather, play, and socialise.

Local skaters and community members have already begun celebrating the development online, expressing excitement about finally having a safe and dedicated spot to practice and enjoy their sports without having to improvise on roads or public paths.

Why it Matters

For a long time, Lucknow didn’t have a formal skate park, even though interest in skating has been rising among youngsters across the city. The new facility at Lohia Park is expected to:

  • Boost grassroots sports participation.

  • Provide a healthy and supervised space for kids and teens.

  • Enhance overall park experience for residents and visitors alike.

Located in the bustling Gomti Nagar area, Lohia Park’s skate park will add to Lucknow’s growing list of public amenities — complementing other recreational spaces such as Janeshwar Mishra Park and riverfront attractions.

As construction progresses, Lucknow fans and skate enthusiasts alike are eagerly looking forward to rolling into this new chapter of city life — where fun, fitness and community meet on wheels!
