Munshipulia Flyover Set to Become Lucknow’s New Sports Hangout!

Badminton, basketball, pickleball and green public spaces may soon replace unused concrete under the Munshipulia flyover!

If you’ve ever crossed the Munshipulia flyover and wondered why so much space beneath it lies unused, that view might soon change—for the better. In a move that could redefine everyday public spaces in Lucknow, the vacant stretches under the Munshipulia flyover are planned to be transformed into a vibrant sports and community zone.

The proposed development focuses on turning dull concrete into an active, people-friendly space. As per the plan, the area will feature dedicated courts for badminton, basketball and pickleball, catering to both serious players and casual evening enthusiasts. Alongside sports facilities, the design includes green landscaping, comfortable seating areas and organised parking, making it a welcoming spot not just for athletes but also for families, walkers and residents looking to unwind.

What makes this project particularly promising is that all financial and technical groundwork has already been completed. The proposal has now been forwarded to the Chief Minister’s Office for final approval, bringing it one step closer to reality. If cleared, this initiative will breathe new life into an underutilised urban pocket—something many growing cities are striving for but few execute effectively.

For a neighbourhood like Munshipulia, this could mean more than just new courts. It could become a daily social space where mornings begin with badminton rallies, evenings fill up with basketball games, and weekends turn into relaxed community gatherings. More importantly, it signals a shift in how Lucknow is rethinking its infrastructure—by reclaiming forgotten spaces and turning them into assets that serve people.

If approved, the Munshipulia flyover project won’t just change the look of the area; it may well set an example for similar urban transformations across the city. For residents, it promises something simple yet valuable—a safe, accessible place to play, relax, and spend time close to home.
