The much-anticipated Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway has been completed, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accelerated preparations for its grand inauguration. The launch is likely to take place on May 24, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to inaugurate the project in the presence of several senior leaders and officials.
Authorities are currently considering two possible venues for the inauguration ceremony — the Rest and Service Area near Lalganj Bypass on the expressway and another location near the Jajmau bridge. Officials reportedly prefer the Lalganj site due to better road connectivity and ample open space for a large-scale public event and helipad arrangements.
Built at an estimated cost of ₹4,700 crore, the 63-km expressway includes 18 km of elevated corridor and 45 km of greenfield stretch. The six-lane access-controlled highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur while easing congestion on the existing highway route.
The project will also improve connectivity to Unnao, Rae Bareli, the Outer Ring Road, and the Agra Expressway. Advanced security systems, including ANPR and PTH cameras, have been installed along the corridor to enhance commuter safety.
According to reports, the inauguration ceremony may also be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and several MPs, MLAs, and senior state officials.
