Lucknow is set to welcome a new and sustainable way to explore its rich heritage. The Lucknow Darshan electric double-decker bus, launched by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC), will officially begin guided city tours from January 7.

Ahead of the launch, UPSTDC successfully conducted two mock drills to test route readiness, travel timing and overall passenger experience. The first trial run took place on Saturday morning, covering the morning circuit, while the second mock drill was conducted on Sunday evening on the evening route.

During these trial runs, the electric double-decker bus passed through several prominent landmarks of the city, including Vidhan Bhawan, The Residency, Hazratganj, Raj Bhavan, Gomti Riverfront, UP Darshan Park and Chhattar Manzil. Officials said the mock drills helped fine-tune operational details and ensured better coordination among departments before the formal rollout.

More than 20 participants took part in the mock drills, including officials from the tourism, forest and roadways departments, representatives from the nagar nigam, engineering students, and members of tour and travel agencies. Their feedback was used to improve the service and make it more commuter-friendly.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said the initiative aims to make urban tourism in Lucknow more structured, inclusive and environmentally responsible.

“We deliberately involved officials, students and travel professionals so the service reflects multiple perspectives,” he said.

The Lucknow Darshan bus is expected to offer residents and tourists a comfortable, informative and eco-friendly way to experience the city’s cultural and historical landmarks, marking a significant step towards organized urban tourism in the state capital.
