Aerolloy Technologies Limited, a subsidiary of PTC Industries Limited, operates India's largest titanium and superalloy materials plant. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also laid the groundwork for more cutting-edge facilities under India's first strategic materials technology complex at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor's Lucknow node.
The recently opened 50-acre titanium mill is the largest single-site titanium remelting facility in the world, with an annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes. India is able to manufacture aerospace-grade materials locally thanks to advanced technologies like Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR), Electron Beam (EB), Plasma Arc Melting (PAM), and Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM).
India has historically relied on imports for vital components used in defence platforms, such as turbine engines, missiles, and airframes. The country will be able to break free from this reliance and become more resilient to shocks from around the world thanks to this new Strategic Complex. It is a significant step towards India being self-sufficient.
The aerospace precision castings plant, which will enable the production of single crystal castings essential for jet engines; the aerospace forge shop & mill products plant, which will not require the importation of billets, bars, and plates for aerospace applications; and the aerospace precision machining shop, which will enable the export of ready-to-assemble ultra-precision CNC machined components, were among the seven other advanced facilities that were laid alongside the titanium plant.
India will become one of the few countries in the world with full-spectrum defence material capacity. India will now produce and export defensive equipment in addition to being a customer.
