In a historic milestone for India’s defence manufacturing landscape, the first consignment of BrahMos missiles produced at the newly developed BrahMos Aerospace facility in Lucknow will be flagged off on October 18

The event will be attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, symbolizing a major leap forward in India’s pursuit of defence self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The BrahMos facility is situated within the Lucknow node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) — one of the six nodes envisioned to transform the state into a leading centre for advanced defence manufacturing. Built with an investment of ₹300 crore, the facility has a production capacity of 80–100 missiles per year.

This high-tech manufacturing plant is designed to produce, assemble, and test critical components of the BrahMos missile system. It is expected to employ hundreds of skilled professionals, engineers, and technicians, while also creating indirect employment through ancillary industries and local suppliers.

The inauguration and dispatch of the first BrahMos batch from Lucknow marks a defining moment for Uttar Pradesh’s vision to become a national defence manufacturing hub. The UPDIC project, championed by the state government, aims to attract investments, develop local supply chains, and position the state as a global destination for defence production and innovation.

With the Lucknow facility becoming operational, India takes another decisive step toward strengthening its defence capabilities and achieving the goal of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” in the defence sector.
