Get To Know Wing Commander Vyomika Singh:

Born in Lucknow, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is an accomplished helicopter pilot. It was a happy moment for Lucknow that she attended the media briefing with Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh began her aviation career with a childhood dream. As early as class six, she had aspirations of becoming a pilot. She became the first person in her family to join the military after enrolling in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to follow her interest and earning an engineering degree. Her academic experience in engineering provided a solid foundation for her work in aviation.

On December 18, 2019, Vyomika Singh received a permanent commission in the flying branch of the Indian Air Force after being commissioned as a helicopter pilot. Over the course of her career, she has accrued more than 2,500 hours of flight time, operating Chetak and Cheetah helicopters in some of India's most challenging environments, including high-altitude flights in the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir.

In 2021, she participated in an all-female tri-services mountaineering expedition to 21,650-foot Mt. Manirang, an accomplishment recognised by the highest defence brass. The Chief of Air Staff and the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of an operational command have commended Wing Commander Singh for her professionalism and bravery. She is a role model for female officers who want to join the defence services, and her work in endurance expeditions and high-altitude rescue operations speaks for itself.
