Rajnath Singh, the minister of defence, will be inaugurating the BrahMos missile production facility in Lucknow on 11th May.

In addition to enhancing the nation's military readiness, the project will place Uttar Pradesh on the world stage for defence production. Singh said at a program at Maharishi University that the missiles made here would also be exported to other nations.

The project is part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor's Lucknow node, which would be a significant step in strengthening India's domestic defence manufacturing and achieving national independence, the defence minister added. According to him, it will not only increase the nation's military but also generate thousands of jobs in the area.

Singh was present at the December 26, 2021, laying of the BrahMos Missile production unit's foundation stone in Lucknow alongside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. BrahMos Aerospace and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are working together to run the project. The factory's construction is finished, and it is currently prepared for inauguration.

BrahMos Aerospace, a joint company between Russia and India, produced the BrahMos Missile, one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world.

The current range of this missile is between 290 and 800 km, and it may be launched from land, sea, air, and underwater. At 2.8 Mach, or roughly three times the speed of sound, this missile significantly strengthens India's military.

While the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force are already using it, the Air Force will receive its Next Generation (NG) version in 2026; this version will be more efficient, lighter, and smaller.
