Lucknow’s iconic Indira Gandhi Planetarium, a landmark known for its Saturn-shaped design, has reopened its doors to the public from August 19, 2025, after undergoing a massive technological upgrade. The reopening marks a new era of astronomical exploration for residents and visitors, as the planetarium introduces India’s first active stereo 3D projection system.

The planetarium has been equipped with a cutting-edge 8K 2D–3D Digital Full Dome Projection System, powered by six synchronized digital projectors. This upgrade ensures that visitors are immersed in breathtaking visuals of the cosmos, with crystal-clear clarity and realism that rivals international standards.

What makes the experience truly unique is its integration with NASA’s Digital Universe data, allowing audiences to witness scientifically accurate, real-time cosmic visuals. From exploring the rings of Saturn to traveling across distant galaxies, visitors will now experience the universe like never before.

Starting today, the planetarium is rolling out its new schedule of five daily shows.

Timings: 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm, 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm.

The reopening also coincides with efforts to attract more tourists to Lucknow by highlighting the city’s cultural and scientific landmarks together.

For years, the Indira Gandhi Planetarium has been a favourite destination for students and families. With this upgrade, it is now positioned among the most advanced planetariums in Asia.
