The much-anticipated Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway is likely to be inaugurated on April 28, 2026, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure development. The six-lane, access-controlled highway is expected to drastically cut travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur, offering a faster and more efficient commuting experience.

Spanning approximately 63 kilometers, the expressway connects Amausi Airport in Lucknow to Azad Marg in Kanpur. Once operational, it is projected to reduce the current travel time of 2–3 hours to just 30–45 minutes, significantly easing congestion on the existing route.

Developed under the supervision of the National Highways Authority of India, the project has been completed in two major stretches: 45.3 km in Unnao district and 18.7 km in Lucknow. The expressway features several elevated sections designed to bypass urban bottlenecks and ensure smooth traffic flow.

The highway will allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h, aligning with modern expressway standards. However, access will be restricted to four-wheelers and heavy vehicles, with two-wheelers and three-wheelers prohibited for safety and efficiency reasons.

Toll charges are expected to be around ₹275 for a one-way trip for cars, making it a premium yet time-saving option for commuters and commercial traffic alike.

While the inauguration is tentatively scheduled for April 28, final confirmation is awaited from the Prime Minister’s Office. Once inaugurated, the expressway is expected to open to the public almost immediately.
