Lucknow is set to add a new landmark to its riverfront as the government has approved the construction of a "Smiling Bridge" over the Gomti River. The pedestrian-only bridge is aimed at improving connectivity between both sides of the riverfront and enhancing public spaces in the city.

Designed as a people-centric urban structure, the bridge will reflect the city’s cultural warmth and welcoming spirit, inspired by the theme “Muskuraiye, Aap Lucknow Mein Hain.” The main span of the bridge will measure 180 metres, with a width of 12 metres, offering ample walking space. Including approach ramps on both ends, the total length of the bridge will be approximately 380 metres, ensuring easy access for people of all age groups.

The project is expected to feature aesthetic lighting, landscaped walkways and dedicated viewing points, offering panoramic views of the Gomti River—particularly attractive during evening hours. These elements are aimed at encouraging walking, leisure activities and tourism along the riverfront.

With an estimated cost of ₹64 crore, the government has already released ₹18 crore to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to begin construction. Once completed, the pedestrian bridge is expected to significantly enhance walkability, strengthen riverfront tourism and add a modern architectural highlight to Lucknow’s evolving urban skyline.
