Culinary Heritage: Lucknow Awaits UNESCO Gastronomy Recognition

City of Nawabs Aims for UNESCO Gastronomy Recognition

Kriti Sawhney

India has proposed the city of Lucknow, which is known for its kebabs, biryani, and royal culinary traditions, for participation in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) under the Gastronomy category. The City of Nawabs is set to become internationally known for its rich and illustrious culinary history as a result of this action.

The Nawabs were renowned for their extravagant feasts and inventive cooking, and their influence can be traced back centuries to the beginning of Lucknow's culinary culture. Every meal, from the beautifully layered Awadhi biryani to the delicate Galouti kebabs narrates a tale of talent, perseverance, and legacy. Flavours abound in the city's streets; imagine the mouthwatering Tunday Kababs, sheermal, kulfi, and nihari served in both heritage restaurants and food stands.

Lucknow's culinary identity would get international recognition if it were included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. It would encourage the preservation and advancement of traditional food practices, increase cultural tourism, and bring together international culinary partnerships.

Additionally, the city would have the chance to share best practices with other innovative communities, participate in policy discussions on culture and development, and draw in international chefs, food experts, and foodies.

One thing is evident as foodies from all over the country applaud Lucknow: the scent of its history is ready to spread.
