In a significant step towards safer and greener mobility, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) launched its women-only electric bike shuttle service, MyDidi, in Lucknow on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day. The service was inaugurated by UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar at Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station.

Designed on a “By Women, For Women” model, MyDidi seeks to address one of the biggest challenges faced by metro users—last-mile connectivity. In its first phase, the service will be available from Vishwavidyalaya, IT College, Bhoothnath, and Krishna Nagar Metro stations, offering women commuters convenient travel within a 5-kilometre radius. The fare has been fixed at ₹15 per ride, with free rides being offered during the introductory period from June 5 to June 13.

The launch is particularly relevant on World Environment Day as the service relies on electric mobility, helping reduce carbon emissions while encouraging greater use of public transport. UPMRC highlighted that the Lucknow Metro network already serves over 90,000 passengers daily and has implemented several sustainability measures, including solar power generation, regenerative braking technology, rainwater harvesting systems, and energy-efficient station operations.

With MyDidi, Lucknow joins a growing list of cities adopting eco-friendly transport solutions that also prioritize women's safety and accessibility. The initiative is expected to make metro travel more convenient for female passengers while supporting the city's broader environmental and sustainable mobility goals.
