The storm is actually brewing in the city of Nawabs as William Shakespeare’s celebrated play The Tempest is all set to be staged in Lucknow as a new adaptation directed by Chris Walters on September 18.
A London-based theatre practitioner, actor, and educator with more than four decades of experience, Walters brings this adaptation to life after a month-long workshop at Sant Gadge Ji Maharaj Auditorium in Lucknow.
Presented by Ehsaaz Foundation under its Stage School Project, this adaptation also brings an interesting ensemble approach to the stage, with multiple actors portraying Ariel as a single spirit and two performers sharing the role of Caliban. The production brings Shakespeare’s world of magic, power, betrayal, love and redemption to the stage for audiences in the city
One of William Shakespeare’s most celebrated late plays, The Tempest follows Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, who has been exiled to a mysterious island with his daughter Miranda. When his old enemies arrive years later, he conjures a storm that sets off a dramatic story of power, revenge, forgiveness and love.
