Uttar Pradesh is stepping into a new era of tourism with the launch of the Bed & Breakfast (B&B) and Homestay Policy 2025, a bold initiative by the Yogi Adityanath government to address the ever-growing demand for accommodations in the state’s spiritual and cultural hubs. With Lucknow leading the charge in registrations, officials estimate that nearly 800 new homestays will soon open their doors in the state capital alone.

The policy also allows for financial incentives and grants. Homeowners with 1-6 rooms and up to 12 beds who live close to tourist attractions can register their properties as homestays. A home may rent out no more than two-thirds of its rooms.

Applications are accepted at up.tourismportal.in, the website of the Tourism Department. Gold and Silver classifications will be assigned to registered homestays based on criteria and amenities.

Lucknow has shown the most enthusiastic response so far. As the cultural heart of Awadh and a frequent stopover for both domestic and international tourists, the city often faces accommodation shortages during peak seasons. With heritage charm, culinary delights, and a growing influx of business and leisure travelers, the capital is perfectly positioned to become the model for UP’s homestay revolution.

If successfully implemented, the Homestay Policy 2025 could transform not just Lucknow but the entire state into a more immersive, welcoming, and visitor-friendly destination.
