UP Government Approves Lucknow–Kanpur Rapid Rail Project!

In a major infrastructure boost for the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially approved the Lucknow–Kanpur Rapid Rail project, marking a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity and easing intercity travel.

The 67-kilometre corridor, designed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), will connect Amausi Airport in Lucknow to Kanpur via Unnao. Trains on this route will run at a top speed of 160 km/h, reducing the current travel time between the two cities from over two hours to just 40 minutes.

The corridor is expected to integrate key economic zones, industrial areas, and residential hubs along the Lucknow–Unnao–Kanpur belt, improving accessibility and boosting both business and tourism. The project will also complement the upcoming metro and expressway networks, creating a seamless multi-modal transport system across central Uttar Pradesh.

Officials believe the rapid rail will not only decongest highways but also promote sustainable urban mobility through energy-efficient and high-capacity transport.

Once operational, the Lucknow–Kanpur Rapid Rail will become one of the fastest intercity connections in the country, setting a new benchmark for modern, commuter-friendly travel in India.
