No Helmet, No Fuel: Lucknow's New Rule for Two-Wheeler Riders!

In order to strictly enforce the state government's "No Helmet, No Fuel" policy and reduce the number of road fatalities caused by two-wheeler accidents, the district administration of Lucknow has instructed petrol stations in the capital of Uttar Pradesh to refuse fuel to drivers and pillion riders who are not wearing helmets as of January 26.

Lucknow District Magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar ordered stringent enforcement of the "No Helmet, No Fuel" policy in response to recent directions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Transport Department's initiative to reduce road fatalities caused by two-wheeler accidents.

In accordance with this instruction, petrol station operators have been allowed 7 days to place sizable signboards about the new policy on their property. Operators must also make sure that all of the CCTV cameras at petrol stations are operational in order to monitor and settle disputes.

In addition to promoting helmets as vital life-saving equipment, the campaign aims to foster a culture of responsible driving. Official figures for 2022 showed that there were 1,408 accidents in Lucknow, resulting in 643 fatalities and 994 injuries.
