The upcoming year is going to provide travellers on the Lucknow-Kanpur route with a new road that will cut the two cities' two-hour journey time down to 45 minutes.

“At least 65% work is done and everyday we are accumulating carbon credits by saving fuel with the use of 3D automatic machine guided (AMG) technology being applied on the road for the first time in India. We expect the road will be ready for use by May-June 2025,” said a senior National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) official in Lucknow.

The 56-km section, which connects the Lucknow ring road with the Kanpur ring road, is the first road in India to use 3D AGM technology. It consists of a 45-km greenfield motorway and an 11.5-km elevated section.

Access control will be implemented over the entire stretch, meaning that only the three entry/exit points designated by the NHAI will be allowed to access the roadway. According to data the official shared regarding the status of the highway construction, 1900 of the 2300 girders that need to be installed have already been installed.

This highway would not only relieve traffic on the Lucknow-Kanpur corridor but also make travelling to other parts of the state easier. Ultimately, this six-lane roadway will be linked to both the Lucknow Shaheed Path and the Ganga Expressway. Furthermore, the expressway's connections to other routes will make travelling to UP West easier.
