Lucknow is hosting a vibrant showcase of inclusivity and talent at the Divya Kala Mela. Organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the event is drawing strong footfall at the Lucknow University campus.
The fair runs until November 23 and features 110 differently-abled artisans and entrepreneurs from across India. It offers visitors a unique chance to support the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement while discovering handcrafted products, innovative Braille games, and creative works made by Divyang artists.
One of the biggest attractions at the mela is the vibrant collection of Braille-based indoor games, including Braille Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, and tactile puzzles, showcased by the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun.
“We want people to understand how visually impaired individuals can enjoy games and puzzles just like anyone else,” says Rohita Kumar, a Braille instructor at the institute. Along with colleagues Rajesh Kaushal and Bhupendra Rana, Kumar shares that visitors are responding enthusiastically to the interactive Braille exhibits.
The mela also features an impressive variety of home décor, lifestyle products, apparel, eco-friendly stationery, organic foods, handmade jewellery, toys, clutch bags, and curated gift items. Each stall highlights the extraordinary skill and craftsmanship of differently-abled creators who are turning their art into sustainable livelihoods.
Calling the event a powerful platform for empowerment, Nagesh Kumar Pandey from the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) says, “Divya Kala Mela is a brilliant opportunity to nurture differently-abled individuals into successful entrepreneurs.” He notes that artisans from diverse regions of the country are contributing their best work to the exhibition.
But the mela is more than just a marketplace—it is an experience of connection and community. From food stalls run by differently-abled chefs to handcrafted items infused with personal stories, every corner of the event adds meaning and warmth. “Supporting these artists brings smiles to both buyers and sellers,” shares visitor Anirudh Janeja, who praises the food stalls and the lively atmosphere.
With its message of inclusivity, empowerment, and local craftsmanship, Divya Kala Mela stands out as one of Lucknow’s most meaningful ongoing events—encouraging residents to support differently-abled entrepreneurs while experiencing the joy of purposeful shopping.
