Ayodhya, the sacred birthplace of Lord Ram, is all set to create history once again with Deepotsav 2025. Scheduled for October 19, the festival will witness the lighting of more than 26 lakh earthen diyas along the ghats of the Saryu River and across the holy city. This massive spectacle is not just about creating visual magic—it’s about devotion, unity, and reaffirming Ayodhya’s place on the global cultural map.
With this, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to break its own Guinness World Record, surpassing the earlier feat of lighting 22 lakh diyas in 2023.
This year’s Deepotsav will also feature the largest collective Aarti ever held, with over 1,100 saints and religious leaders joining hands to chant hymns and invoke divine blessings.
To ensure flawless execution, more than 7,000 students from Awadh University will volunteer in organizing, arranging, and monitoring diyas for the Guinness World Records team’s verification. Every diya lit must stay aflame for at least five minutes for the attempt to be valid.
In addition to the grand lighting, the city is unveiling several new highlights this year:
- A state-of-the-art wax museum on Parikrama Path, featuring 50 life-size figures of Ramayana characters, enhanced with interactive storytelling, sound, and light effects.
- Enhanced infrastructure, sanitation, and crowd management systems to accommodate lakhs of devotees and tourists.
- Live streaming facilities for devotees worldwide, allowing millions across the globe to join in virtually.
According to Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh, the Deepotsav has “transcended from being a state-level celebration to a festival of global importance.” With the consecration of the Ram Mandir earlier this year, international interest in Ayodhya has surged, making Deepotsav 2025 a focal point for religious tourism.
