As part of its continuous expansion in eastern India, Air India Express announced the opening of four new routes from Bhubaneswar. By connecting the capital of Odisha with Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, and Patna, the new services would improve regional connectivity and give passengers additional travel options.

Air India Express will start operating flights to Lucknow from Bhubaneswar on January 4, 2025. Reservations are now being accepted for these routes. Bhubaneswar-Lucknow flights will operate only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Air India Express also debuted a new aircraft with a unique "Ikat livery" in honour of Odisha's rich cultural legacy as part of this expansion. Ikat is a traditional fabric-dyeing method that is renowned for its elaborate designs and represents the state's rich creative heritage.

Bhubaneswar is currently connected to major cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, and Pune by Air India Express's 104 weekly flights. In addition to being significant regional hubs, these cities are thriving cultural centres that provide easier access to both business and tourism.
