Lucknow is set to make aviation history as Shankh Airlines, a Uttar Pradesh–based airline, gears up for its commercial debut in the first quarter of 2026. The new carrier has acquired three Airbus aircraft and will initially launch flights connecting Lucknow with Delhi and Mumbai, offering fresh travel opportunities for residents of the city and surrounding regions.

Shankh Airlines — officially known as Shankh Air and headquartered in Uttar Pradesh — has received regulatory clearances, including a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, paving the way for its entry into India’s fast-growing aviation market. Lucknow and Noida are designated as the airline’s primary hubs, positioning the city as a key center for its operations.

In its initial phase, the airline plans to focus on high-demand routes, starting with Lucknow–Delhi and Lucknow–Mumbai flights, which are popular among business travellers, students, and tourists alike. As operations expand, Shankh Airlines intends to add more destinations and services across Uttar Pradesh and beyond.

The airline’s fleet of three Airbus aircraft reflects its commitment to modern and efficient air travel. According to industry plans, additional aircraft will join the fleet as the airline grows its network.

Shankh Airlines is emerging at a time when India’s aviation sector is opening up to new players to boost competition and improve connectivity beyond the traditional duopoly of larger carriers. Alongside other new entrants, Shankh’s arrival is expected to make air travel more accessible and competitive for passengers throughout the region.

Local travel experts believe this new airline will not only enhance connectivity for Lucknow residents but also spur economic activity by creating jobs and strengthening links between Uttar Pradesh and major metros. The focus on middle-class travellers and first-time flyers is central to the airline’s vision, aiming to position air travel as an everyday mode of transport rather than a luxury.

As the launch date approaches, Lucknow is buzzing with anticipation for Shankh Airlines’ flights to take off — marking a significant chapter in the city’s aviation story.
