Lucknow is set to get its first-ever Gene Bank at the upcoming Gomti Biodiversity Park, a major step toward environmental conservation and biodiversity awareness in the city. The project will be developed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) in collaboration with Amity University, whose experts will oversee the construction and operation of the special laboratory.
The biodiversity park is being developed on land reclaimed by LDA from the Sahara Group. In the first phase, around 25 acres of land is being transformed into a biodiversity park at a cost of nearly ₹14 crore. A dedicated 2-acre Gene Bank will be built within the park to help students and visitors learn about plants, birds, insects, and wildlife through practical exposure and expert guidance.
The project is expected to become an important centre for biodiversity education, eco-tourism, and environmental awareness in Lucknow. With field biologists and specialists working at the facility, students will get hands-on learning opportunities, making the park both educational and recreational for the public.
