The Chandrashekhar Azad Shooting Range in Sarojininagar is set for a major upgrade under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, a move aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and nurturing shooting talent in the state capital.

Built in 2008 at a cost of ₹37.14 crore, the project stalled after only ₹18.88 crore was spent, leaving key facilities incomplete. Over time, the complex deteriorated and failed to serve athletes as intended.

The Uttar Pradesh government has now granted in-principle approval for redevelopment, with the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) tasked with selecting a private partner. The revamped facility will feature international-standard 10m, 25m and 50m ranges, athlete hostels, and improved infrastructure. Of the 44-acre land parcel, around 36.85 acres will remain dedicated to sports, with limited commercial components permitted.

While ₹50 crore has been earmarked in the 2025–26 budget, the total project cost is estimated at ₹197.28 crore. The PPP model is expected to bridge the funding gap, bring technical expertise, and ensure professional management.

LDA will soon initiate competitive bidding to finalise the private developer. Once completed, the upgraded range is expected to boost local talent and position Lucknow as a host for national and international shooting events.
