The Public Investment Board (PIB) has approved the Lucknow Metro's East-West Corridor, which is a major step forward for urban mobility in Uttar Pradesh. This represents a significant advancement in the city's metro network growth.

The planned 11.165-kilometer East-West Corridor would link Vasant Kunj in the east to Charbagh in the west. The route will consist of 4.286 kilometres of elevated and 6.879 kilometres of underground tracks, with 12 stops (five elevated and seven underground). The project is expected to take five years to complete and has an estimated cost of ₹5,801 crore.

The corridor will link a number of well-known locations, such as the developing Vasant Kunj neighbourhood and Old Lucknow's Aminabad, Chowk, and Thakurganj. Additionally, it will be integrated with Charbagh Metro Station's current North-South Corridor, making inter-corridor transit easier.

The Lucknow Metro network would eventually be extended to 79.976 km, including new lines like Munshipulia to Janakipuram and IIM to Rajaji Puram. It is anticipated that the project will greatly increase urban mobility, lessen traffic, and give everyday commuters a dependable public transit choice.

After receiving approval from the PIB, the project must now need final approval from the Union Cabinet before construction can start. When the East-West Corridor is up and running, it should improve citywide connections and encourage sustainable urban growth.
