As Lucknow continues to grow as a vibrant urban center, one of its biggest challenges has been managing ever-increasing traffic and parking chaos. In response, the city has been gradually adopting smart parking systems—combining technology, automation, and policy reform to bring order to the roads and convenience to commuters.
The Municipal Corporation has been making significant efforts to make Uttar Pradesh's capital, Lucknow, have an entirely smart parking system. After the Chief Minister's Office intervened, the Municipal Corporation began the procurement process for the smart parking project, which had been stalled for a long time.
According to Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, 73 main parking locations would first have smart parking facilities installed. Private operators will be chosen for this through an open and competitive bidding process. The chosen operators will have a minimum five-year contract that grants them the authority to run the parking lot.
SMART PARKING FEATURES:
1. Automatic Barrier System: Vehicle entrance and exit locations will have automated barriers built doing away with the need for human interaction.
2. Sensor based parking spots: Each parking space will have sensors installed to determine if it is filled or vacant. The driver will find it simpler to locate the ideal parking spot as a result.
3. Digital Payment System: Through the scanning of QR codes, a digital payment option will be accessible. This will encourage cashless transactions and ensure transparency in the process.
4. Booking Through App: Through a unique mobile app, residents will be able to reserve parking spaces in real time. The software will also enable real-time tracking and parking fee payment.
5. Live Parking Location Tracking: The app and web platform will show the current parking location in real time, providing drivers with up-to-date information on available spots.
These smart solutions could become a blueprint for other Indian cities grappling with similar issues.
