Lucknow residents travelling to Kanpur should plan ahead as repair work on the old Jajmau Ganga Bridge is set to continue for around three months from September 16, 2026.
The NHAI is carrying out repair work, including bridge bearing replacement, during which heavy vehicles will be diverted away from the old Jajmau bridge.
Trucks and other heavy vehicles travelling from Lucknow towards Kanpur will be diverted via Buxar Ganga Bridge and Fatehpur, adding approximately 80–90 km to their journey.
Cars and two-wheelers will continue to be allowed through one lane, but commuters should expect slower traffic and possible congestion around Jajmau.
If you're travelling between Lucknow and Kanpur, especially by bus or commercial vehicle, check the traffic situation and allow extra travel time before leaving.
