Uttar Pradesh is preparing to host the first-ever Dudhwa Mahotsav, a three-day cultural and eco-tourism extravaganza, at the Dudhwa National Park in Lakhimpur Kheri this November 2025. Conceptualized by the UP Eco-Tourism Development Board, the festival seeks to bring together wildlife, tribal culture, and sustainable tourism in a single celebration that reflects the essence of the Terai region.
Known as one of India’s most pristine tiger reserves, Dudhwa is home to a spectacular range of flora and fauna, including tigers, rhinos, elephants, and over 450 bird species. The Mahotsav aims to spotlight this ecological wealth while also empowering indigenous Tharu communities and positioning UP on the global eco-tourism map.
With activities ranging from zip-lining, wildlife safaris, and Vistadome jungle train rides to eco-camps, tribal storytelling, and jungle yoga, the event seeks to provide a unique chance for visitors to establish a close bond with the natural world. Birdwatching excursions, bicycle routes, wall climbing, forest food vendors, and nighttime events with Tharu ethnic dances, musical performances, and cultural exhibitions are all things visitors may anticipate. It is also claimed that a zero-waste tent city will provide environmentally friendly lodgings modelled after the aesthetics of forests.
Workshops, forest education sessions, Tharu artisan exhibits, and conversations with wildlife specialists are reportedly other features of the festival. In 2025, Dudhwa is expected to see an unprecedented increase in visitors, including families, lone explorers, students, environmentalists, and foreign photographers, with around 7 lakh people.
Through homestays, local cuisine, forest products, and tribal handicrafts, the festival also hopes to provide a forum for promoting livelihoods that are climate resilient. The bidding procedure is already in progress, and artists, agencies, and eco-tour operators from all around the nation are being invited to take part.
With its blend of wildlife exploration, cultural immersion, and sustainability practices, it promises to become a flagship event in India’s eco-tourism calendar.
