WhatsApp Bharat Yatra: Empowering Indian Small Businesses with Digital Tools

Kriti Sawhney

WhatsApp has started a first-of-its-kind nationwide project called the "WhatsApp Bharat Yatra," which aims to teach small companies how to use the platform to expand and engage with their clientele.

Under this program, a mobile bus will begin a tour throughout Delhi-NCR, stopping at busy marketplaces such as Laxmi Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Nehru Place, and others to conduct personalised, on-the-ground training sessions.

Important business centers in Haryana's Gurugram and Uttar Pradesh's Noida will be visited by the mobile bus tour. Later stops will include Agra, Lucknow, Madhya Pradesh's Indore, and Gujarat's Ahmedabad. The trip will stop at Sapphire Mall and Atta Market, two important centers in Gurugram and Noida.

Businesses will learn how to create catalogs, set up a WhatsApp Business Profile, and create compelling advertisements to increase sales and consumer engagement through interactive demos.

Another goal of the Bharat Yatra campaign is to introduce small businesses to the most recent developments on WhatsApp. Recent enhancements include options for bespoke messages for birthday greetings, appointment reminders, and sale updates, as well as Meta Verified, a tool to improve business reputation. Additionally, WhatsApp is exploring the integration of Meta AI, which will help businesses better manage client engagement.

India's economy depends heavily on small enterprises, which can accelerate the nation's digital transformation if given the appropriate digital tools. The goal of the WhatsApp Bharat Yatra is to help these companies reach their greatest potential by giving them the know-how and abilities they need to interact with clients online, expand, and be successful.

The Bharat Yatra program expands on WhatsApp's existing efforts to support the small business ecosystem in India, including Digishaastra, a digital literacy program run by the India SME Forum, and WhatsApp Se Vyapaar, which was introduced in collaboration with CAIT to upskill 10 million traders.
