Lucknow is gearing up for one of its biggest tourism milestones yet. The Supreme Court has cleared the much-awaited Kukrail Night Safari, paving the way for India's first night safari to be developed in the city.

With an estimated investment of ₹1,500 crore, the project is set to transform the Kukrail Reserve Forest into a unique wildlife attraction that could put Lucknow on the national tourism map.

Kukrail Night Safari To Start Soon!

Planned within the sprawling Kukrail Reserve Forest, the night safari is envisioned as India's first urban night safari, offering visitors a chance to experience wildlife after sunset in a carefully designed natural environment.

The project will be developed in phases and is expected to become a major attraction for both residents and tourists visiting Lucknow.

While approving the project, the Supreme Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to strictly follow all environmental conditions recommended by the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

To minimise ecological impact:

  • Only essential tree felling will be permitted.

  • Ten new trees must be planted for every tree removed (1:10 compensatory plantation).

  • Regular inspections will monitor compliance throughout the project.

The court also warned that any violation of these conditions would be treated seriously.

Night Safari in India

Earlier proposals included attractions such as night tram rides, immersive forest experiences and adventure activities. Some features have since been redesigned or removed to ensure the project remains environmentally responsible.

Once completed, the Kukrail Night Safari is expected to become one of Lucknow's most distinctive attractions, blending wildlife conservation with eco-tourism.

From riverfront developments and cultural landmarks to upcoming hospitality projects, Lucknow continues to expand its tourism offerings. The approval of India's first night safari marks another significant addition to the city's growing list of experiences.

For residents, it means a brand-new destination to look forward to. For travellers, it gives yet another reason to add Lucknow to their itinerary—not just for its history and cuisine, but now for a one-of-a-kind wildlife experience after dark.
