The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) on Monday launched QR code-based ticketing for the Lucknow Metro, allowing commuters to book tickets from home and travel without standing in queues.

With the new facility, passengers can now purchase tickets digitally through the official UPMRC mobile application. In addition to the app-based system, QR tickets will also be available at station ticket counters and Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs).

According to a Lucknow Metro spokesperson, tickets booked through the mobile application will be issued in a digital QR format directly on passengers’ smartphones. For those who prefer physical tickets, paper QR tickets can be obtained from ticket counters and QR-enabled vending machines installed at metro stations.

To ensure smooth access, commuters travelling with QR tickets must scan the code at Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates marked with yellow stickers. Scanning the QR ticket will be mandatory both at the time of entry and exit from the stations.

As part of the rollout, QR-enabled ticket vending machines are being installed across all metro stations in the city. Each station will have at least one such vending machine along with a QR-enabled ticket counter. The machines will support UPI payments, offering an additional layer of convenience for daily commuters.

The metro authorities have marked QR-compatible machines with special stickers to help passengers easily identify them.

The introduction of QR ticketing is expected to reduce waiting time at counters, promote digital transactions, and enhance the overall travel experience for thousands of daily commuters in Lucknow.
