A major infrastructure boost is on the horizon for Uttar Pradesh as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced plans to develop a Rapid Rail Corridor connecting Lucknow and Kanpur through Unnao.
Addressing a large public gathering in Unnao on Thursday, the Chief Minister said the proposed high-speed transit system will be developed on the lines of the successful Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail network. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur, two of Uttar Pradesh's largest economic and educational hubs.
Alongside the Rapid Rail Corridor, the state government will also construct a major Outer Ring Road as part of the newly established State Capital Region (SCR). The project aims to improve regional connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and support long-term urban and industrial growth across Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, and surrounding districts.
The proposed Rapid Rail is expected to transform daily commuting for thousands of professionals, students, and business travelers who regularly move between Lucknow and Kanpur. Improved transportation infrastructure could also attract fresh investments, boost real estate development, and strengthen economic ties across the region.
The announcement marks another significant step in Uttar Pradesh's ongoing infrastructure expansion drive, with the government focusing on creating a modern transportation network that supports faster mobility, sustainable urban growth, and regional economic development.
Once implemented, the Lucknow-Kanpur Rapid Rail Corridor and SCR Outer Ring Road are expected to emerge as key projects shaping the future of central Uttar Pradesh.
