This year marks a glorious milestone in the heart of the City of Nawabs—Lucknow Charbagh Railway Station has completed 100 iconic years of operation. A timeless symbol of Indo-Saracenic architecture and the historical pulse of Indian railways, the station has been a silent witness to revolutions, reunions, and remarkable journeys since its inauguration in 1925.

Constructed at a cost of ₹70 lakh—a monumental sum at the time—the Charbagh Railway Station was designed by British architect J.H. Hornimen. Its architecture fuses Mughal, Awadhi, and Rajasthani elements, resembling a palace more than a functional railway terminal. With its domes, minarets, and arches, the station has long been admired not just for its utility but for its sheer beauty.

Beyond the bricks and mortar, the Charbagh Railway Station also holds a significant place in India's freedom movement. It was here that two stalwarts of India’s independence struggle, Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, met for the very first time. This meeting in Lucknow laid the foundation for a deep and strategic partnership in the years that followed—one that would shape the course of the nation’s future.

Even after a century, the station retains its charm. The newer parts—like the upgraded platforms, escalators, and LED-lit facades—coexist with the old world grandeur, offering a nostalgic yet functional travel experience.

From hosting freedom fighters to greeting millions of travelers with its timeless architecture, Lucknow Charbagh Railway Station is far more than a transit point—it's a living monument to India's past and present.
